Why the left’s global virtue signaling betrays American values and leads to authoritarianism when diplomacy fails
Senator Chris Van Hollen’s diplomatic trip to El Salvador, which not only failed but also collapsed in a cloud of shame and symbolic helplessness, was a significant event. It was a stunning example of political theater gone wrong. Under the guise of “humanitarian advocacy,” the Maryland Democratic senator tried to get Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was suspected of having ties to the violent international gang MS-13, freed. The trip was clearly a planned political move to make progressives and immigrant groups back home happy, but it was cloaked in the usual political language of kindness and due process. But what Van Hollen probably thought would be a popular redemption story around the world turned out to be El Salvadoran officials shutting all of his doors—no meetings, video chats, phone calls, or anything else.
The incident is not just a diplomatic fake pass; it shows how out of touch and harmful liberal internationalism has become. Being so rude to a sitting U.S. senator abroad makes him look bad and hurts the image of American power and government around the world. Why is that? The goal was more about looks than about being diplomatic. Countries that prioritize national autonomy, such as El Salvador under President Nayib Bukele, can detect this desperation from a considerable distance.
Is it political expediency or compassion?
According to left-wing groups, the way the U.S. government deports people is full of racial and ideological bias. They have used the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia to show how bad things are. They accuse Garcia of bias, claiming that racism and an anti-immigrant political climate wrongly labeled him as a gang member. Still, the media is making things a little easier than they really are. MS-13 is not a hoax or a talking point. It is a group of killers, extortionists, and drug dealers that is destroying communities all over the United States and Central America.
Instead of standing with law enforcement and ICE agents who risk their lives to protect American neighborhoods, Van Hollen chose to surround a person who was thought to be a member of a gang to make a point with extreme immigration reformers. What does that say to families whose loved ones have died because of gang violence? What message does it send to other countries when American officials seem more concerned with the well-being of foreign murderers than with the safety of their citizens?
The answer is simple: it shows weakness.
Labels Turn into Weapons: A Warning Story by Elijah Schaffer
While the left continues to view inmates as victims, individuals such as Elijah Schaffer issue a far more alarming warning. Schaffer stated on a recent radio show that the term “domestic threat” is undergoing a dangerous transformation. Previously, only extremely dangerous groups such as gangs, drug cartels, and terrorist organizations were associated with this phrase. But now, liberals are using it to discuss religious groups, traditionalists, and even worried parents who show up to school board meetings.
There is no hope behind this use of rhetorical creep. This is a planned move to shut down dissent and make conservatism and radicalism look like the same thing. And the law already makes the point very clear. Although the Biden administration has dealt with pro-life and January 6 protesters with more hostility, it has not been as harsh with Antifa rioters or extreme climate activists who hurt government property.
Because this definition is constantly changing, Schaffer says that today’s gang member could become tomorrow’s church pastor. In the realm of politics, the left’s adaptable moral perspective aids in shifting the boundaries. That is not only wrong, it’s very Orwellian. Language manipulation is the first step toward making thoughts illegal.
Man’s Edge and the Fall of the Masculine as a Business Model
Around the middle of the political discussion, Schaffer’s speech turned commercial to promote Man’s Edge, a testosterone booster that is being sold as a solution to America’s male health problem. Some may scoff at this ad, but it reveals a greater truth: American masculinity is in danger, and it’s not by accident.
Low testosterone, being tired, and having mental instability are all signs of a society that shames strength, praises responsibility, and insults traditional male roles. They are not just physical issues. There are many messages for modern guys that say they are toxic, out of date, or even worse, overbearing. This leads to a group of guys who feel alone, disconnected, and powerless.
Man’s Edge is more than just a countercultural tool for reclaiming manhood; Schaffer skillfully adds a capitalist answer to a critique of culture. The goal is not just to raise testosterone levels but to bring back the energy of American men. At a time when some political institutions are perceived as trying to weaken women, commercial goods that claim to empower them are becoming popular forms of protest.
The Story of January 6: Are You in a Legal or Political Setting?
The ongoing court case about what happened on January 6 has clearly skewed justice. One especially serious case that is shown on TV is Ryan Zink, a peaceful protester who walked around the Capitol grounds but is now caught in the government’s net. The documentary says that government agencies are actively hiding body cam footage that would clear Zink and others, especially footage that shows Capitol Police breaking the law or starting fights.
To be clear, we should carefully investigate any bad behavior by police officers. Why does the federal government possess the authority to select specific evidence for use? Why can’t the government allow prisoners to watch movies that could potentially clear their cases? The reason for this is that the government wants to keep up a story that January 6 wasn’t just a crazy protest but an uprising, a coup, or even treason by Donald Trump and his supporters.
The award does not stand for justice. It’s a reward.
“Sympathy for the Radical:” The Media’s Picky Empathy
One of the most shocking things about the show was when host Sean Hannity discussed a growing trend in mainstream media: making heroes out of violent people as long as they fit with left-leaning values. Consider Luigi Manion, a famous activist who was praised by liberal journalists for his “passion” and “social awareness,” even though he had a past of violence.
The media criticizes Trump fans for respectfully displaying flags on Capitol Hill while also praising radicals who attack business owners and set fire to police stations in the name of “justice.” The thinking is flawed, but deliberately: violence is okay if it moves the story along.
This double-talk demonstrates the profound lack of morality in our institutions. Americans don’t hate journalism; they just see lies. The government manipulates the media to portray criminals as heroes and patriots as outcasts. It no longer serves as a protective shield.
“John Woods Tragedy: Political Prisoner in the Land of the Free”
The scariest story on the show was about former Senator John Woods. It sounded like a warning from a totalitarian government, not a constitutional nation. The government sentenced Woods to eighteen years in prison, convinced that his donation to a Christian organization would aid it. Most people agree that this very harsh punishment was political.
Early and loud support for Donald Trump was his real crime.
Following his conviction, Woods’ suffering has intensified. After getting several COVID shots while he was in prison, he reportedly had serious health problems, such as heart failure that required emergency surgery. His family doesn’t even know where he is or what’s wrong with him right now.
Such conduct does not stand for justice. This is a form of public persecution with which the government concurs.
Giving consumers more power as a form of cultural rebellion
The section ended with ads for My Pillow and Rev 7 energy drink, which the conservative movement sees as more than just goods. They are symbols of culture. Purchasing a My Pillow signifies your support for a company that faced criticism for defying “woke orthodoxy.” Rev 7 is a way of saying, “I’m awake and energized—not for the regime, but against it.”
These items are more than just warmth or caffeine. They’re about choosing the right tools. The goal is to defeat the enemy. It’s about getting back power in a country where the bureaucratic elite are treating the people like slaves. These clarify it that there is an emotional undercurrent: the fight is personal and begins at home.
Last but not least, a country at a crossroads
The trends are clear, from terrible political events abroad to overreaching prosecutions here at home, from skewed news coverage to men losing their sexual health. The American left has moved away from core ideals and toward stories that divide, discourage, and destroy. Their justice is actually justification dressed up as payback; their martyrs are tyrants, and their heroes are criminals.
Conservatives face not only unfavorable policies but also a fundamental transformation of America itself. There is no fight between two political parties with different ideas. There is a fight between people who believe in the Constitution and people who want to change, delete, or burn it totally.
The internet is not just a place to pick rules. Either society or chaos is our choice. That is, either slavery or freedom. Either darkness or light prevails.
Let’s make smart choices and never, ever feel bad about protecting ourselves.
