Democrats in Disarray: How Fights Within the Party, Radical Ideas, and a Leadership Crisis Are Tearing the Left Away

views

At this point, the Democratic Party is at a crossroads. It is in the middle of a civil war within itself, with the elite under attack and a far-left uprising growing stronger. The person in charge is Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who has skillfully used populist words to make herself look like the future of the Democratic Party.

AOC tries to bring people together in her talks all over the country by asking them to look past differences in race, geography, and socioeconomic background. Her speeches, which are full of emotional calls for unity, try to make her seem like a national leader who can bring people together. But there is a radical plan behind the veil of unity that many Americans find very worrisome.

It’s not in Ocasio-Cortez’s plans to bring back

America’s greatness, but rather to completely change it into something that can’t be recognized. AOC conveniently ignores the real policy differences and cultural values that make our country so diverse by saying that splits like “urban versus rural” or “black, white, and Latino” are made up. Her plan to turn all of American society into a single progressive movement could destroy the uniqueness and local control that conservatives value so much.

Her message hits home with young people who are disappointed, but it turns off many people in middle America, like families who work hard, farmers, and small business owners who believe in traditional American values. AOC’s rise shows a worrying trend: the Democratic Party is being taken over by ideological extremists who care more about change than representation.

The Big Change Campaign across the country

The Democratic Party is becoming more extreme in places other than New York and the coasts. In the past few months, AOC has been on a national tour with Senator Bernie Sanders, who calls himself a communist. They have gone all over the country together pushing for a political change to get rid of what they call a “oligarchy.”

A lot of people show up to their protests, especially college students and activists who want big changes. As part of their progressive platform, they support extreme climate change, transfer of wealth, open borders, and harsh racial policies that are called “justice.” Even with all of their fiery speeches, there is one clear fact that stands out: their plans do not reflect the values or goals of most Americans.

Capitalism, which has made the United States the richest country in the world, is quickly seen as the source of all bad by progressives. They are furious about “corporate greed,” make fun of business owners, and always want the government to get involved. However, this anti-capitalist talk is very far from the truth for most Americans, who know that free business leads to new ideas, jobs, and economic growth.

People who disagree with Sanders and AOC are right to say that their plan is dangerously close to authoritarian socialism. As part of their plans, the government would control the economy, forcefully transfer wealth, and limit people’s freedoms in the name of equality. Many Americans don’t see this as progress; they see it as going back to a system that has failed horribly everywhere it has been tried.

Democrats in the middle sound the alarm

There are people in the Democratic Party who are not in support of the progressive uprising. Moderate politicians like Senator Alyssa Slotkin (D-MI) are becoming more and more worried about where their party is going. Slotkin, who is from a Michigan district that could go either way, has spoken out against the use of angry words like “oligarchy,” saying that they turn off the normal voter.

Slotkin’s criticism brings up an important truth: the Democratic Party’s flirtation with extreme leftism is hurting its chances of winning elections outside of deep blue strongholds. Progressives may be very popular on Twitter and college campuses, but they don’t speak for the silent majority of Americans who care more about practical answers than being ideologically pure.

People in the progressive elite don’t listen to Slotkin’s warnings because they see any attempt at control as betrayal. The rising ideological split within the party is like an existential struggle: is the Democratic Party a group of center-left realists who want to make changes slowly, or is it a revolutionary movement that wants to change the American order?

This fight within the Democratic Party could paralyze them going into future elections, leaving them more split and open to Republican wins.

Stacey Abrams and the Movement for Radical Changes to the Voting Process

In addition to the ideological fights going on within the Democratic Party, people like Stacey Abrams are asking for major changes to the way elections work, which makes mainstream voters even less likely to support them. Abrams is planning to run for government again. She made headlines when she refused to accept that she lost the 2018 Georgia governor’s race. But this time, she’s pushing for policies that a lot of people think are very anti-democratic.

Some of Abrams’s ideas are to lower the voting age to 16 and let people who are not citizens vote in local elections. Conservatives see these plans as empty efforts to “stack the deck” in favor of the left, while progressives see them as necessary to “expand democracy.”

It is a dangerous gamble with America’s future to let 16-year-olds vote in important elections when their minds are still growing and they don’t have much experience in the real world. Studies over and over again show that people don’t reach full cognitive growth until they are in their early twenties. This includes being able to make decisions and control their impulses. If the stakes weren’t so high, it would be funny to trust teens to make decisions about national policy.

In the same way, letting people who aren’t citizens vote goes against the whole idea of patriotism. Voting is an important honor that is only given to people who have sworn allegiance to the United States. It is not a right that everyone living in our country has. The progressive left is willing to weaken American sovereignty in order to gain political power, as shown by Abrams’s plans.

Democratic fights within the party reach a breaking point

The differences within the Democratic Party are no longer just about policy; they have turned into a full-on ideological war. Moderates like Slotkin are trying to save the party by appealing to people in the suburbs and the middle class. While this is going on, progressives like AOC, Sanders, and Abrams are stepping up their socialism and saying that only big changes can bring about “justice” and “equity.”

Political experts think that these problems will only get worse as important elections get closer. Democrats risk becoming a party of isolated coastal elites and urban activists who are cut off from the rest of the voters if they don’t come up with a clear, consistent plan that speaks to most Americans.

The rising civil war is good for Republicans. As Democrats fight over issues like socialism, climate extremism, and letting non-citizens vote, conservatives have a great chance to show that they are the party of common sense, security, and patriotism.

Why lowering the voting age is crazy

One clear sign that Democrats are desperate is their push to lower the voting age to 16. Some progressives say that teens are old enough to drive, work, and pay taxes, so why not let them vote? But this theory falls apart when looked at more closely.

Making decisions about the future of the country is not the same as driving a car or flipping burgers at a fast food joint. It takes maturity, knowledge of history, and sense of civic duty to vote, all of which teens just haven’t grown yet.

Conservative critics have done the right thing by calling this idea silly. They point to a lot of neuroscience study that shows important parts of the brain, like the ones that control impulses and evaluate risk, are not fully developed until the mid-twenties. If 16-year-olds were allowed to vote, the future of the country would be in the hands of people who might not fully understand the effects of their choices yet.

To be honest, the push to lower the voting age has nothing to do with making democracy bigger and everything to do with politicians looking for easy votes. Progressives know that young people tend to vote left. Democrats want to improve their chances of winning the election by appealing to this group of people before they become adults who lean more conservatively. This is a dishonest plan that the American people can see right through.

Polls show that Democrats are at all-time lows

Radical Democratic ideas are already having effects that can be seen. Poll after poll shows that the Democratic Party has some of the lowest approval scores it has ever had. People are angry, disappointed, and more and more ready to reject the Democratic brand totally.

Part of the trouble is that the Democrats won’t say what they think is best for America. Their message has been one of constant negativity for years: they are against Donald Trump, conservatism, and tradition. But being against something isn’t enough to get people to vote. People in the U.S. want leaders who care about something, like freedom, security, and wealth.

The Democrats have not done enough to solve the most important problems. Instead of focused on growth in the economy, they are crazy about rules that kill jobs because of climate change. Instead of making the country safer, they support policies that let people come and go freely. Along with radical activists who want to cut police funds, they don’t stand with law enforcement.

Many people no longer trust Democratic leaders because of this lack of sensitivity. It is very likely that the party will lose the elections if they don’t make a big change.

The Red Sea: A Picture That Reminds Us of Our Strongness

The county-by-county electoral map is a striking image that Democrats can’t get out of their minds. It shows a sea of red across the vast American heartland, with only a few blue spots on the coasts and in big towns.

Not only is this picture interesting for its political value, but it also shows how far apart the Democratic Party is from the rest of the country.

The Democrats hold on to their urban bases, but the Republicans control rural, suburban, and exurban America. These places show the ideals of faith, family, hard work, and patriotism, which progressives often ignore or actively attack.

As long as Democrats keep pandering to extreme ideologues and activists, they will have a hard time competing in the big parts of America that aren’t cities.

A party that is at odds with itself

The Democratic Party is in a dangerous spot right now. Its leaders don’t seem to be able to figure out how to get back to the center, even though there is rebellion within the party, poll numbers are falling, and public dissatisfaction is growing.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her progressive friends promote a view of America that most Americans don’t recognize: a collectivist utopia based on anger, redistribution, and constant complaining. Moderates, like Alyssa Slotkin, are trying to save what little authority their party still has by calling for a return to realism.

Things may not be the same now, though. Progressives are so passionate about their ideas that they have no plans to give up their gained power. And moderates don’t seem to have the guts to stand up to rebels, so they’ll never be important.

The chance is clear for Republicans. While the Democratic Party is in chaos, Republicans can show that they are the calm and stable alternative by standing strong on ideas like freedom, opportunity, and national pride.

The fight for America’s soul is already going on, and Democrats are losing it—not to Republicans, but to themselves.
