Make Up For Missiles? A lot of focus on optics on the left while real defense policy is under attack

views

It’s not a surprise that liberal news networks focus on unimportant issues while avoiding important national issues in this day and age of over-the-air political propaganda. However, the recent CBS News story that said Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth was building a “makeup studio” near the Pentagon conference room went against common sense and was not a good example of journalism. The claim, which was soundly debunked by Hegseth’s team, was a classic example of what right Americans have come to expect: sensationalism that is meant to make headlines and take attention away from the real work of government.

The story was quickly called “totally fake” by Secretary Hegseth, who is a decorated Army warrior, a conservative thinker, and one of the most patriotic people to ever lead the defense department. His spokesman, Sean Parnell, a former Army Ranger and battle veteran of Afghanistan, went even further and said it was “100% Fake News.” The Pentagon’s new Rapid Response division repeated the claims on social media all afternoon. This shows that the department understands the need to fight fake news in real time, which is something other departments should do too.

But while the liberal press gushed over the claimed “makeup room” as a possible clickbait story, they conveniently forgot to mention that the room in question was actually a green room that had been used for briefings and appearances for a long time and had equipment left over from previous administrations. There were no new installations, glam teams, or extravagances. Just an old media corner that had been turned into a political scandal.

The irony is clear: America’s fourth estate would rather spread rumors than analyze policy at a time when national security issues are getting worse in many areas, from the Middle East to the Indo-Pacific.

Real problems are being ignored by a biased press in “Smoke and Mirrors”

The supposed makeup studio would be the source of laughable controversy if it wasn’t so obviously being used to distract from more important issues. The Pentagon is navigating a tricky international landscape that includes a campaign that is still going on in Yemen, growing threats from Iran, and tricky diplomatic moves with NATO partners. Also, Secretary Hegseth is leading one of the biggest changes in the history of the Pentagon. He is getting rid of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies that have hurt military readiness and morale.

But corporate media sources have chosen to talk about cosmetics instead of looking into the cultural and strategic effects of these plans. Why? Because writing about real conservative change would mean admitting that it works and, even worse, that regular service members like it.

Instead of talking about what it means to bring back unvaccinated troops who were wrongfully released during the COVID era or having a serious discussion about the role of transgender people in combat units, the media has focused on more subtle attacks, campaigns that make people whisper, and clickbait.

This kind of reporting is not only not serious, it also fails to do its job as a journalist, which is to tell the public.

Outrage on Demand for Democrat Hypocrisy

It wasn’t a coincidence that lawmakers on the left jumped at the chance to use the scandal made by the media to attack Secretary Hegseth, saying he was unfit for duty and calling for his resignation. Their calls weren’t about national security or following the rules; they were about the bad taste of a disproved CBS story.

Their responses say more about what’s important to them than Hegseth’s do. These are the same lawmakers who didn’t mind that Hillary Clinton kept secret emails on a personal server that wasn’t locked down. They are the same people who supported Barack Obama’s IRS targeting of conservative nonprofits. the same people who did nothing as Afghanistan fell to the Taliban because of Joe Biden’s bad decision to pull out.

Now, all of a sudden, the lack of a makeup room is a reason to quit? Keep the piety out of our ears.

In fact, Democrats are scared of what Secretary Hegseth stands for: a rising tide of sensible conservatism that could break up their ideological grip on the Pentagon. He is openly pro-military, pro-America, and against woke people. He’s not going to give up.

Fighting the Real Fight: Resistance Within the Pentagon and a Cleanse

Of course, trying to change a system as big and deeply rooted in ideology as the Department of Defense will always face opposition from within. Three employees were fired because they were thought to have leaked information, possibly with the help of hostile media sites. This shows that Secretary Hegseth is serious about loyalty, discipline, and honesty within the ranks. Because the results of the internal review will be sent to the Department of Justice, the Swamp should know that the days of leaks and partisan sabotage that can’t be stopped are over.

Even more telling was the fact that his chief of staff quit. This wasn’t a firing, but it did show that loyalty to Hegseth and support for his goal are now required for top Pentagon leadership. A department has been stuffed with career bureaucrats who care more about CNN talking points than American win for too long. This is a sign that the department needs to be cleaned up.

There is a culture war at the barracks.

Liberals are very angry about Secretary Hegseth’s efforts to get rid of DEI programs, but they are really hitting home with veterans and active-duty troops who are fed up with the way the military has changed. What used to be a place where people trained to fight wars is now a diversity lecture. For representation, readiness has been given up. There is no longer unit solidarity; there is identity politics.

This isn’t growth. It’s return to the past wrapped up in words of inclusion.

By getting rid of DEI rules, making it illegal for transgender people to join, and letting unvaccinated Americans back in, Hegseth is putting the military’s attention back on one thing: winning wars. That is what the military is for; it’s not to be used as a test tube for radical social engineering.

This is what his enemies call ideological. But which is more ideological: bringing back standards and unity or making soldiers go through woke brainwashing training that makes them hate each other because of their race, gender, or sexual orientation?

It’s important to note that Hegseth’s policies are controversial not because they are extreme, but because they work.

NATO and National Importance: A Rise of the Global Right

The press was busy measuring lipstick tubes in a green room while Secretary Hegseth met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to reaffirm the United States’ commitment to shared strategic goals and mutual security. Most news outlets didn’t talk about this meeting, even though it was very important.

Under Hegseth, the Pentagon has pushed for strength through clarity by making sure that NATO members meet their spending goals on defense, pushing allies to take tougher stances against Iran and China, and supporting military drills that show the West’s determination. It’s the return of Reaganism: peace through power, not weakness.

While Washington critics scream about manners, the rest of the world is noticing a change. The United States is taking a stand once more. That is a lot more important than what color paint is in a green room.

A Republican View of Leading the Defense

Secretary Pete Hegseth is an example of a new breed of conservative leaders who don’t feel bad about believing in American exceptionalism, don’t back down when the left makes fun of them, and don’t give in to bureaucratic inertia.

There are some problems with his time in office, but there are problems with all reforms.

Most Republican voters back his efforts, and among soldiers, his popularity is growing quickly. It’s not just that he speaks his mind. Because he pays attention. He did his job. In the field, he knows what’s important. And he’s acting with confidence based on what he knows.

Pete Hegseth is fixing the Pentagon’s reputation, not by making small changes to the outside, but by making big changes to the structure, culture, and strategy. And it’s making people on the left crazy.

There is a choice between optics and outcomes

This whole mess with the “makeup room” shows more about the way Americans think about the media and politics than it does about any mistake made by the government. It shows that the press is more interested in how things look than how well they work, in attacking people’s character than looking into policies. It shows that the Democratic Party is fighting hard to keep its power in the one part of the government that both Democrats and Republicans still value.

But what’s most important is that it shows that real, strong conservatism is once again taking hold in the Department of Defense.

Pete Hegseth is not going to give up. We shouldn’t either.

Let the left-wing media focus on their false titles. Let the Democrats demand that the president step down over made-up crimes. Strong, helpful people, and independence are what real conservatives care about.

And with leaders like Hegseth in charge, America’s defense policy is back where it belongs: strong, focused, and not afraid to say sorry for anything.
